Rodney has co-founded two video game development studios. His first, Fizz Factor, shipped 17 PC, DS and PSP titles over eight years under Rodney’s leadership. In 2009 he launched Ricochet Labs, which will release its first title in 2010. Before entering the game industry, Rodney was a screenwriter on a variety of TV programs for Fox, Showtime, and other networks.
An active member of Austin’s digital media community, he chairs the Digital Media Council, serves on the boards of the Austin Film Society, the International Game Developers Association, and KUT, Austin’s NPR affiliate. He founded Gamers for Kids’ Sake, a game industry segment of Bowl for Kids’ Sake, which raises funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas. Over the eight years Rodney chaired GFKS, he and his game colleagues raised $100,000 for pairing kids with adult mentors.
A graduate of Leadership Austin, Rodney received the Austin Under 40 Award for Arts and Entertainment in 2007. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Rice University and his master’s from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a James Michener Fellow. A music, film, barbecue and cocktail fan, Rodney lives in Austin with his wife Nancy Mims, founder of Mod Green Pod, and two children.
